Super obsessed with Sudoku.
So, several posts ago, I was really puzzled by a sudoku app that ran the same patterns over and over again. After trying my hand at printed versions and then websudoku.com (which is a fantastic, fun site) I learned rather quickly, of course, that not every sudoku can be solved via triplet combinations. Eventually, I began desiring a sudoku puzzle generator of my very own, so I started reading up...

Gah… I have the biggest urge for a moist, dark chocolate cake, possibly dressed or drizzled in chocolate syrup. First world problem, maybe.

Today.
I finally won a sudoku game.* We finally have a food processor. I am finally at peace about where I am in life. (Or more accurately, I’ve ceased to care in a negative manner. As they say, it could be worse.) * which I’ve started playing, in concerted attempts to slow any potential decline to Alzheimers or dementia, seeing as I match every early warning sign in some manner.

I can’t believe Dumbledore died. I know I’m late to this game and I had known this fact going in, but it was still a bit of a shock all the same. Professor Snape, I still believe in you… And Harry Potter still seems remarkably simpleminded, loyalty notwithstanding.

I’ve been having the working woman blues lately. After finding some comfort from the systers mailing list (a global mailing list for women in IT), I was inspired to pick up, among other things, an audiobook of How To Win Friends and Influence People. I’m currently on the 2nd disk, but the main gist of it thus far is Don’t Be A Jerk*, which is an alright lesson, I guess. I was...

I would advise you to cultivate humility more than overconfidence or self indulgence. This really is not about you. It’s about the marginalized masses, the signs of the times, and the profound yearning for lasting change. Take that larger narrative more seriously than you take yourselves. Finally, do not let go of your hope. Popular movements are the only force that truly brings about...

This is how much I stress about work.
Last night I had this dream that I was working at the security operations center again, analyzing realtime traffic. Except, it wasn’t network traffic — it was sewage, and I was watching it flow by and writing signatures that’d keep it from creeping into the city’s water supply. I woke up feeling a little high-strung and exhausted. —- * I also dreamt a musical last...

On my way back to my cubicle, I took off my shoes and did a cartwheel. I just needed to know if I could still do one… as I get older, every few years or so, I just need to know. Good news is, I still got it. I’m back to work in my cubicle now — hair slicked and office clothes smoothed over.

[Nelson Mandela] once recited for me the parable of the young Xhosa man who left his small village to search for a wife. He spent years traveling all around the world looking for the perfect woman, but did not find her. Eventually he came back to the village without a bride, and on his way in saw a woman and said, “Ah, I have found my wife.” It turns out, Mandela said, that she had...

I could go on.
friend: did you discover any new veggie dishes that are to die for?
me: oh gosh... there are a lot of things that i've really enjoyed
me: i made a chocolate pie out of chocolate and avocados... and i made "melty cheddar" out of potatoes and carrots
me: i made vegetable soup, using an empty corn ear (after removing the kernels)
me: roasted pumpkin seeds... vegetarian pancakes... vegetable coconut curry...
me: i pretty much eat well, except when i don't cook.
me: lol
friend: omg
friend: that sounds so good
me: yeah! i'll cook for you when you come
me: i think my favorite thing that isn't really a dish is banana ice cream which is just frozen bananas pureed in almond milk with some sugar and flavorings/spices (i use cardamom and cinnamon)
me: sooo delicious
friend: O_O
me: regular meals (squash soups and stuff) are good too, but i kind of enjoy the more creative stuff
me: oh, and i eat a lot of mushrooms ... shiitake and oyster and enoki
me: but i think a lot about how mushrooms can be hard to grow in lage quantities, so if everyone in the world became vegetarian, we would have a shortage of mushrooms
me: oh! cashew cream is good too... soaked cashews pureed until they're creamy... you can really use them as a replacement for half-and-half or cream
friend: OH MY GOD I AM SOOOO HUNGRY!
me: hahaha

I can count on my two hands now how many couples (a few of them married) in my various circles of contacts have split recently. As someone who hasn’t had a lot of faith in relationships in the past, it makes me a little uneasy, even though there hasn’t been much of a ripple in my own relationship. I can’t help being reminded of my old beliefs that only lucky people can be...
